Questions
Question.
Where else could I look, what other routes could I follow?
Answer.
As well as accessing music directly from composers, television companies more frequently use Library music, and may also go through music publishers and agents, who look after composers. Library music is specially written in different contemporary styles and moods for use on television and in film, but not specifically for any programme. There are several well established companies doing this. In the first instance, it would be worth trying to arrange to meet with a library music company to get some feedback on your work. The same applies to music publishers. In both cases you should do some research and find out the best companies to contact, who may suit your style of music.
As I said, contacts are the most important, so networking with the right people is invaluable. There are several organisations that you can join, where you can meet people in the business and find out more about how it works. The British Academy of Composers and Songwriters (www.britishacademy.com) is a good start.
